It seems as if everyone and their dog is selling used auto parts. You can find used auto parts for sale everywhere including recycle yards, garage sales, in small paper classified ads, and on the net. Salvage yards are normally one of your fastest options if you're looking for used auto parts. Salvage yards have a wide variety of used auto parts for most vehicles.
You may also choose to do some searching at the flea market or through the small paper classified ads. But you should be careful when buying used auto parts through these channels because many of them are the low-quality knockoffs that easily break with time. And many of them may be stolen.
The best place to search for and find cheap and good-quality used auto parts is on the net. There are thousands of used auto parts classifieds on the net. From salvage autos to used car engines, from brand-new cars to second-hand tires, the net never runs out of sites to log on to. And two of Cars For Used favorite sites are Automotix and car-part.
At these sites, you will find a huge list of used and rebuilt auto parts. Automotix shows mostly classifieds, while car-part searches the inventory of salvage yards.
Automotix's classifieds are normally placed by private individuals of used auto parts and accessories in order to sell them. And because these private owners are not automotive stores, these used auto parts are normally sold at lower prices. These individuals are sometimes car and truck mechanics, backyard dealers, and the like who have some extra used auto parts to sell.
Car-part on the other hand searches about a gazillion salvage yards. If you live in California and there is a part available in New York, car-part will show it. It even covers other Countries. And you will be amazed at the price differences on some of the parts, not to mention the availability.
As an example I had a friend tell me that he needed a differential for a truck. This differential was not to be found everywhere, he spent weeks calling and searching. I chuckled as I walked over to my computer. I went to car-part and selected the vehicle information and part description using their menus. A few seconds later up pops the results with several parts available. The funny thing is that car-part allows you to sort your results by distance. There was a differential available approx 20 miles from my friends house. He lives in the country and the closest decent sized town is 20 miles away.
