How closely do you watch the sector of snowboarding? How closely do you watch the Olympics? If the answer to either of those questions is closely", then you almost certainly know the name Shaun White. In fact , he was only the U. S. gold medalist for the Men's Half-pipe in 2006! It'd be fairly hard to miss that if you closely followed either the world of snowboarding, or the Olympics!
Shaun White was born Sep 3,'86, in San Diego California. He lived there for most of his life, although he currently lives and works out of Carlsbad, California. His early life was fraught with trouble, as he was born with a congenital heart defect known as tetralogy of Fallot. Lucky for him, they caught it at a young age, and he had 2 cardiac surgeries before the age of 5. Tetralogy of Fallot leaves a 60 p.c survival rate if not caught by the age of 4, so had they not caught it, it's possible we wouldn't be in a position to debate Shaun White today. But they did, and he went on to turned into one of the most well-known names in snowboarding.
Although White is widely recognized in the world of skateboarding, his first love has traditionally been the snowboard. That love started when he was only 6 years old, watching his older brother try to snowboard at June Mountain. His mum and dad proclaimed that White was too junior to take lessons, but his pa obviously felt the pull of destiny. He took lessons and then taught White what he learned. His mummy worried that perhaps White was learning too fast, as mas are apt to do. In an attempt to slow her kid down, she told him he could only board backwards ( or switch, as snowboarding terms go ). In the end , however , this only assisted his career, because it let him to be skilled at all ways of boarding.
The Olympic Games isn't the sole event White has won big at. Every year since 2002, White has competed in the X-Games, a sports competition for extraordinary sports like snowboarding, skateboarding, and BMX biking. Each year, he has come home with either silver, or a gold medal. Now, with his win in the 2006 Olympic Games, he has simply skyrocketed to internationally famous fame. Where will White finish up in the history books of snowboarding? Only time will tell, but no doubt it'll be somewhere great!
The Olympic Games are always something to look out for. They are held every 4 years. There are the Summer Games and the Winter Games. In 2010, you can watch the Winter Olympics. This major event will take place in Vancouver.
