It can be hard to know what to do when you find out that you have allergic children. You hardly know what questions to ask, and it can be hard knowing what exactly you need to do to take the best possible care of your child. You might even wonder how this happened, and how you're going to be able to protect your child, especially if they have a severe food allergy. Before you panic, take a deep breath and calm down. There are some simple steps you can take to make certain your allergic children are safe and healthy.

The number one way to keep your Allergic Children safe is to avoid the allergen food. With severe food allergies no amount of the food is safe. A common example of this is someone who is allergic to peanuts, they can't eat food that's been fried in peanut oil. Even though they aren't eating peanuts, the oil can stick around enough to cause an allergic reaction. Avoiding the allergen means that you will spend a lot of time reading labels on food at the grocery store. This can double or even triple how long it takes you to shop, but its worth the health of your child. You even have to avoid the free samples that some grocery stores hand out.

If your Allergic Children are in school or daycare, it is vital that you have an action plan. This tells teachers, daycare providers, babysitters, and any other caretakers what to do in case of an accidental exposure. For every one's peace of mind, have this plan printed up and put in an easily accessible spot, such as on the fridge or in a drawer. If you do put your plan in a drawer in the kitchen, you can put an Epi-pen or pre measured dose of Benadryl in the same drawer.

Another way to help keep your Allergic Children safe is to create a network of people who will help prevent any exposure. This network will usually include anyone that takes care of your children on a regular basis, such as teachers, doctors, babysitters, and family. Even your children have to help prevent allergic reactions, assuming they are old enough of course. If you are traveling or going out to eat, the restaurants or hotels can be added to your network temporarily. Often times, they will go that extra mile to make sure your family's stay is fun for everyone.
