Have you ever looked at someone's old high school year book and laughed at the glasses that the kids wore? They didn't have much of a choice and, yes, they would probably like to Photoshop their photos to eliminate the glasses. It took forever, however, for the fashion industry to understand that glasses should make us look better, not just see better. Voila! The birth of fashion eyewear!
Of course, prices can be pretty outrageous and even for those of us who need glasses, we might put off the purchase longer and longer until we can afford what we like or need. With average prices ranging from $300 - $500, it's no wonder that consumers are going without longer than they should.
If looks are important and finances are a problem, check out your local retailers for coupons and special offers. Frames are frequently on sale, and two for one specials are very common. Even some of the frames that are on sale, though, can be quite attractive and are perfectly acceptable options to the high end designer frames that for all intents and purposes aren't actually made with much more quality.
Also, check with your insurance company to see if you are covered for not only periodic exams, but for a percentage off the actual eyeglasses as well. If you happen to have a private dental insurance company, many of these pair up with eyeglass retailers to offer some very nice discounts. Check your dental insurance card to see if this is the case.
Since eyewear has become such as important fashion statement lately, all the designers have jumped on the bandwagon to get a piece of the action. You can get glasses to match your car and proudly display your car's emblem right on your frames. Don't have a fancy car? You can still buy frames that match your favorite clothing line, and have them match your outfits.
For those of you who are lucky enough to have 20/20 vision but still want glasses, no problem! Eye glasses can totally change one's appearance and it's not uncommon to add glasses to one's wardrobe in order to look older or even smarter. A young department manager or a bleached blonde PhD candidate can be taken much more seriously by adding a simple pair of eye glasses with plain glass lenses.
When deciding on buying new glasses, you might also want to think about getting some prescription sunglasses as well. Retailers frequently offer these as a special when buying your regular glasses. And if fashion is your passion, then sunglasses are the way to go to complete your new look.
Sure, all this can turn into some serious cash if you don't do enough due diligence. But even if the price is high, you're going to look great! Isn't that what really counts?
