Viruses occur. They've been around for years and sadly that doesn't look like it's changing. They sneak up to you when you least expect them and when your PC defenses are feeble. What happens when you need to do a P. C. virus fix?
Of course, you ought to be running recent anti virus software at all times. But since anti pathogen software involves both computers and software writers, that can be not as easy to do as to say. If there's a loophole in a software program, you can bet that a virus writer will exploit it quicker than the software writer can patch the hole.
Even though you have all of your anti pathogen defenses in place, on occasion a virus will still slip through the net - perhaps a prepared update fails, perhaps the anti pathogen software company launches a new version that causes your current programme to stop getting updates or you've just plain ignored the "you want to update" messages. No matter what the reason, it's irritating when your PC gets taken over by a malignant virus.
Therefore if you have caught a P. C. pathogen, just what do you need to do when you have to perform a virus fix on your PC?
If you're not already running a recent pathogen removal application, install one now. Most of the programs around can cure most viruses for you when they detect that you've got a problem. If you've got a boot sector pathogen you may not be so blessed, or otherwise there's an excellent chance that they can be useful.
Unplug your network and web cables. These will stop your PC from causing damage on your network or to unknown computer users across the web. Remember to disconnect your infected computer from your house wireless network before you cause any damage there. There'll be a little icon ( possibly at the base of your screen ) that should permit you to do this. Otherwise you will have to dig around in your Control Panel.
Once your PC is safely isolated, run your anti virus programme, following any virus disinfection prompts as they appear. If you're one of the few people in the world who do not have an anti virus programme on your PC, you may manifestly need to download and install a programme before you can run this step of the method.
Once that's been done, reconnect your web connection and if required update your anti virus software with the most recent pathogen signatures and then re-run the software. This should trap anything which has crept through your defenses whilst you were running the first virus scan.
With luck, you've now corrected any virus infection you may have had.
Next, make sure you keep it that way.
Get Windows Security Center to help you when there problems with your virus fix software. If you're running XP or Vista, you'll find the security Center in your Control Panel ( or simply search Help and it'll point you in the correct direction ).
Check your virus fix software settings. Make sure that the virus signatures are constantly updated so you keep any potential future infection safely out of harms way.
