Khigh is an American 3-piece formerly known to have published Wise Hedonist for Power Play Records and if you had to judge from the cover of this Copylefted Rightovers you might easily think it's coming from some sort of metal core or death act. This is actually a great CD and... you couldn't be more wrong...
Listening to the first 4 tunes, one had to think of an over energetic group with some street infuences a la Guns n' Roses: "Inner", "Modern Time Religion", "Supremacy of Rock" and "Pretty Baby" fit quite well into this category, actually... But there's evidently something more distinctive and it becomes crystal clear from the 5th track on.
I must admit Khigh has really good ideas on this record and cage this band in just one genre is surely not enough. In fact "Inspiration" has an alternative vibe almost industrial-ish while the next "Creed of Hate" is more into an alternative vein with a killer solo that not only reinforces the capabilities of this group but also reminded me of Megadeth during the Friedman era. With "More" we have a start that recalls a Rolling Stones song that develops into a rhythm a la Rage Against The Machine and the result is without doubt catchy and very positive.
Free Freed Freedom (what a weird title..) begins with a melodic arpeggio and goes on with a distorted ovbsessive verse that opens towards a half-tempo chorus and other awesome changes, a tune that again would be perfect on a early Metallica CD and probably the best solo of the entire record. Don't Call Me is the ending track and returns to deliver a style more similar to what we heard as soon as I put Copylefted Rightovers on. Splendid double guitars in the vein of Iron Maiden, darker vocals and total changes of rhythm that again reminded me of Hangar 18 with several solos to join the various parts.
With that being said this is an awesome CD and if you're like me a lover of diverse influences Khigh will surely satisfy you.
