There have always been mixed breed dogs that differ in looks, disposition and size even when they come from the same brood. Usually these dogs are referred to as "mutts" and they are much adored. They typically have good health and they make wonderful pets.

A mutt has an unknown heritage. The parents are not as a rule purebreds and the family is basically unspecified. There are no records of their genetic line and their inheritance is dubious.

A purebred on the other hand is a dog that has two parents that are both of the identical type. Many times there are extensive records of the heredity of these dogs and breeders are very vigilant in their breeding techniques to make sure that they produce the strongest inherent tendencies.

You may desire a purebred for a pet or you may desire a mutt. A mutt will usually have resilient health and they do make fantastic pets but a purebred has specific qualities that are bred in. There also is another option that you may take into account and that is the hybrid dog or the "designer dog".

Hybrids are a cross of two purebred dogs from two different breeds. They are distinctive from a mutt because their ancestry is known. Each of their parents are purebreds with genetic lines that can commonly be traced back many generations.

These days' hybrid dogs are becoming quite popular. They can be found in dog shows, pet stores and even the movies. The hybrids usually have the best personality of each breed and they merge the best attributes from both breeds.

These hybrid dogs frequently have very fun names such as a cockapoo for a cocker and poodle mix, a puggle, which is a pug and beagle mix, a goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle combination and of course, many other fun mixtures of the two purebred names.

A hybrid dog can be a great pet and if you cannot come to a decision on a particular breed a hybrid may be a wonderful pet for you. They are usually the best of the two breeds and they are predisposed to possess superior health than the normal purebred. They have uniqueness from both breeds and they are usually very interesting and enjoyable dogs to possess!
