1. Get to Guzzling!
Drink more water. Not soda, not fruit juice, not artsy- fartsy fancy coffee. "But I drink a liter per day...". Not enough! Nobody drinks enough water- especially those of us who are active and outdoors. "But I don't like water..." Stop whining and get a gallon jug of water and a fresh lemon or lime. (Or one of those little tubs of powdered lemon flavored crystal light if you need to). If you're using the fresh stuff, squeeze all the juice into the gallon of water and start drinking. Aim to finish it by the end of the day. If using the powder, simply tap a tiny amount into the water. If you use anywhere near the regular serving, it'll be sweet. At lower amounts it'll taste tart- exactly what will stimulate you to drink more. More energy on the way!
2. Kick the habit of eating fried foods.
We've known for ages that fried foods have negative health effects due to the oxidization of oil at the high temperatures they're cooked at. This hasn't stopped our rampant consumption of these artery clogging, calorie packed, possibly carcinogenic foods. Many a waistline has expanded by these Venus flytraps of food. The biggest challenge is that "you can't eat just one"- foods like potato chips, French fries, fried chicken and donuts. These foods stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain and toss your will power out the window of a high rise building. Make better decisions. Choosing the baked or grilled versions of these foods should save you a ton of calories and hours on the treadmill. Choosing wisely will also likely save you years on your life, not to mention getting the sludge out of your body right now, boosting your energy.
3. Get your "move" on.
Exercise every day. Alternate between heavier workouts and light, relaxing exercise such as walking through the park. Motion creates emotion. Emotion stimulates your inner energy. Exercise stimulates circulation and moves the toxins and metabolic junk through the bloodstream. Exercise also boosts your metabolism and will help you burn more calories and whittle your waistline by tapping into those body fat stores for fuel. Strength training itself can help sculpt your muscles and give you a powerful looking body. Add a little cardiovascular training and you've got a fast fat burning 1-2 punch.
