It might seem like pulling out hair is an odd habit, but the truth is that 1 of every 50 people are affected with this. This is a disorder otherwise known as trichotillomania or trich, and all it means is that you compulsively pull out hair.
Trich can have terrible effects, both physical and emotional, for those who suffer with it. Here are a few things to think about if you want to stop.
1) Think About What's Causing It:
Here are a few reasons why many people develop trichotillomania:
* As a way of coping with stressful times, *After having experienced childhood trauma, *Boredom, *Diet, *Tiredness, and much more.
It will be a lot easier to begin to improve the situation if you can learn as much as possible about the reasons why you pull your hair.
2) Figuring Out Ways of Coping With Stress:
No matter why you started pulling your hair, learning to handle stress better is a great way of starting to pull less.
Learning to handle stress better is a lot easier said than done, but in time you'll get better and noticing the kind of stress that can trigger trichotillomania. You should try to talk about them with family and friends, and you might even benefit from counselling.
3) Drugs:
Medication is never going to be able to make your trich disappear, so you shouldn't rely on it. Many doctors do not even understand this condition and may prescribe you with Prozac. This doesn't usually help you to stop pulling so try out the other treatments mentioned in this article.
4) Hypnosis and Meditation:
These are just two examples of alternative therapies that can help you cure hair pulling. They help for a number of reasons:
* They can help you to understand yourself, and your pulling, more clearly, * They can help you to relax, * They can stop you from think it's your fault that you pull, * And they can clear your mind in times of stress.
5) Accepting Trich: This is the best way you can help yourself to stop pulling out hair or to do it less - you can stop hurting yourself emotionally when you realise that hair pulling is common.
